A well-deserved recognition
We are incredibly proud to celebrate Kids with Cancer Foundation Community Ambassador, Detective Chief Inspector Garry Sims, who has been named Senior Volunteer of the Year at the Blue Mountains Volunteer Awards.
The award recognises Garry’s extraordinary commitment to his community and the time, energy and heart he gives to helping others.
As a Kids with Cancer Foundation Community Ambassador, Garry has brought the Blue Mountains community together with one shared purpose: making today easier for kids with cancer and their families.
Bringing a community together for kids with cancer
Through Garry’s leadership, local emergency services, businesses, schools, community groups and individuals across the Blue Mountains have rallied behind our Care Packs 4 Kids program.
Together, this incredible community has donated supplies for more than 550 Care Packs, contributing the equivalent of more than $11,000 in essential items for children undergoing cancer treatment.
Each Care Pack is filled with practical, hospital-approved items to provide a little comfort and support during what can be an incredibly difficult time for a child and their family.
For Garry, however, it has never just been about the numbers.
He gives his own time to coordinate and grow the initiative, encouraging more people across the Blue Mountains to get involved each year. Garry has also personally visited The Children’s Hospital at Westmead to help deliver Care Packs and see firsthand the difference the program makes for children and families.
The power of community
Garry’s contribution is a wonderful example of what can happen when one person inspires a whole community to come together. We are incredibly grateful to have Garry as part of #TeamKWCF and proud to call him our Community Ambassador.
