What is the Wigs 4 Kids™ Campaign?

We receive many enquiries regarding hair donations. There are two ways sick kids can benefit from this campaign.  One is to donate hair, which will be made into a brand new wig for a child needing to feel a little more normal. The second is to fundraise. This helps us supply the wigs free of charge to any child up to the age of 18.

Create a Fundraiser

Click on the register now button if you would like to raise funds.  You can then start sharing your unique fundraising page with your friends and family so they can donate to your cause. Don’t forget to take before and after photos to encourage others to follow your lead.

Doing a shave or a haircut for fundraising purposes is brilliant. All the money raised from our ‘Wigs 4 Kids™’ campaign goes directly to help the families and the sick kids. So please continue to fundraise in this way. It’s also a great way to build awareness about childhood cancer and some of the effects of cancer treatments.

Send your hair directly to the wig maker

Kids With Cancer Foundation does not take direct hair donations. We contacted many wig makers in Australia to find one that would accept a free hair donation for kids wigs. Many times we were directed to sell the hair to overseas wig makers. We are now working in conjunction with ‘Ella Wigmakers’ on the Central Coast NSW. Rest assured your beautiful locks will be used as a direct hair donation.

Your hair won’t be sent overseas

Our Wigs 4 Kids™ campaign is one of the only campaigns where the donated human hair is used for kids wigs. It’s never sent overseas. Cutting your hair and making a hair donation is a major step so please always check where your beautiful hair is going, and that it won’t be sold overseas. Read the fine print!

Wigs 4 Kids™ campaign doesn’t receive free wigs in return for your donated hair as there is often 60hrs work in a wig. We supply wigs at no cost to kids through our Wigs 4 Kids™ campaign via the oncology social workers in each of our children’s hospitals. Thanks to your support of our Wigs 4 Kids™ campaign we are able to fund the total cost of each child’s wig. Always check what percentage of your fundraising donation will benefit the kids. We’re at 100%.

How to Donate Hair

‘Ella Wigmakers’ will accept all types of hair. The hair needs to be a minimum length of 20cm clean and dry. Before cutting, tie up multiple pony tails (where you can) with elastic bands down the length of the pony tail. Plaiting works too. Then cut above the top elastic band and post in a plastic zip bag inside an addressed parcel to:
