Kids with Cancer Foundation Australia

is a registered charity with the 'Australian Charities & Not for Profit Commission' (ACNC), a non profit organisation, a Public Benevolent Institution with over $22.5million ($22,577,139) donated to 10 hospitals & thousands of families.

Celebrating 20 years supporting the kids, & $22.5million provided.

"It takes a village to raise & care for a child"

"To all of you, her village, Codee-Jo has showed me how generous, kind and caring you are.
The wonder of human nature - it's absolutely mind blowing."

Kids with Cancer, we continue to blink twice every day and are in awe of how lucky we are. We thank you so much for supporting us by paying bills, ones that we have stressed over and wondered how on earth we could pay. You completely came to our rescue. Because Codee-Jo needs a full time carer, only one of us can work, but the bills don’t stop so to have support in the way of paying bills is such a godsend.

We can't express how thankful and honoured we are.

From us to you, our sincere thanks, from The Townsend Family oxox (read more)

Codee-Jo's family is just one of the over 2,000 families from all over Australia that we have been privileged to help, and we thank our supporters who provide us with the funds to help these families. Donate today & 100% of your donation will assist these families.

Our Director Peter Bodman, with Dr Michael Brydon, Chief Executive of The Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, Dr Luciano Dalla-Pozza, head of The Cancer Centre for Children at The Children's Hospital at Westmead and senior Westmead Clinicians.

The word "optimistic" might not be the first that comes to mind when thinking of children's cancer wards. But that's how medical staff feel about them, Luciano Dalla-Pozza, the head of the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, says.

"Cancer wards, for us, are very optimistic - we expect to cure patients," he said. "Our approach is, why would we fail? We're not going to fail."

The Children's Hospital at Westmead alone has received over $7.2million for research, and the support of many Clinicians  salaries since 1998.  We support the work of Dr Luce and his staff, and we're proud to be a 'Founder' of The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Australian charities do not have a Charity Number, but in order to hold charitable status and to provide a tax deductible receipt for donations must be registered with the ACNC.  If any organisation is not listed it is not a charity.
When you make a donation to any charity there is always a real concern:

"how much of my dollar gets through to the cause".

We use all our donations 100% for family assistance, and the cancer wards in children's hospitals with no management fees whatsoever taken from the donations made directly to us and held in our donation Gift Account.  All management costs/Administration etc. come from the lotteries that have been running continuously since 1999, so our donations and funds received from fundraising events are able to remain untouched.  Usually the support we give to hospitals, clinicians and the research that we have funded since 1999 comes from our lotteries.

We are not associated with 'Appco Marketing', nor its suppliers/subsidiaries and never have been, never will be.

Dr Geoff McCowage is a Neuro Oncologist at The Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney.
Kids with Cancer first started funding Dr Geoff's research way back in 1999 (our second year in operation). We provided funds then to employ a Research Assistant (Gene Therapy) $63,000.00, Research Assistant (Unit D52 Gene Clinical) $37,500.00 and over $50,000 for project and laboratory consumables as well as work station and software. These early payments allowed Westmead to initiate the commencement of the trial.
That early support in 1999 has moved on to become: The Gene Therapy Research Unit, which is now a joint initiative of the The Children's Hospital at Westmead and Children's Medical Research Institute, and was established in recognition of this potential and the need for a research environment that combines both basic science and clinical excellence. We are pleased we were able to support Dr Geoff at the beginning of this wonderful research initiative.
Geoffrey-mccowageThe Children’s Cancer Gene Therapy Team was honoured with the Excellence in Translational Cancer Research Award, sponsored by Sirtex, at the 2015 Premier's Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research.
"Gene Therapy provides hope as a viable and innovative approach to the treatment of paediatric brain tumours and alleviation of treatment side effects".
Dr Geoff has many pod casts for parents that explain the cancers that affect our kids and the treatment, we recommend them to all parents: https://soundcloud.com/drgeoff

Four year old little Jax was diagnosed with Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) Jax is a shy little boy when you first meet him, but once he gets to know you, he is very cheeky with a smile that is extremely contagious. Jax loves playing with his iPad and LOVES the Avengers! Us too Jax... especially Ironman! He also loves Batman, Superman, Transformers and Disney's Cars.

He loves playing ball outside and also playing with playdough. Jax has a teddy blanket that he just won't go anywhere without. Some days his mum has to search high and low to find it so he can go to sleep! Teddy has been good for him while being on his treatment.
Jax lives with his parents and his little brother and cousin. He gets into a lot of mischief playing with them.

We here at Kids With Cancer send all our best wishes to little Jax and his family. The financial help the family has been able to access so far from us, comes from our supporter's direct donations.

In the 2016/17 Financial Year we had processed 604 family requests, which was up 100 from the previous year, 157 requests were from new referrals from 10 different children's hospitals.  We paid directly to families $400,000 for everything from groceries to funeral expenses.

We want our supporters to know that we are a stand-alone Public Benevolent Institution, we are totally independent from all other charities.

We are not associated with the 'Oncology Children's Foundation' now trading as 'Kids Cancer Project' in any way, even though the names are similar (& there's often confusion).

The story in Sydney's Sunday Telegraph 7/2/2016 where the past CEO of the 'Kids Cancer Project' admitted to three counts of fraud has no association with us as, 'Kids with Cancer Foundation Australia'. The statement made by the current CEO saying "it was a warning to all other charities", was over the top, unnecessary, and an attempt to tar all decent charities (with proper Governance) with the same brush when it was their own CEO that was sentenced to prison after having 5 years to repay what was stolen over a two and a half year period as CEO.

We have never used backpacker 'Chuggers' in the street or shopping centres with iPads that hide the true percentage of your donation & we warn against donating in that way.

We use 100% of the direct donations that we receive from the public to help the kids, their families and the children's hospitals where they are treated.

Every charity has costs, telephone, electricity, post, printing, salaries etc. but none of our costs come from our direct donations. We have never paid any marketing company from our donation/Gift account.

We will and do use 100% of every dollar in our Gift Account to benefit the kids, no salaries or expenses come from our Gift Account.

In this financial year alone over $400,000 has been provided as direct financial assistance to struggling families of the youngest of children suffering with childhood cancer, for all things from grocery vouchers to funeral assistance.

The major fundraising that 'we' do comes from our own efforts. The lotteries/art unions that we run in shopping centres selling our $2 tickets are run in-house and we work hard on these 7 days a week & have done so continually (without a days break, apart from Christmas Day) for 19 years.

Purchasing lottery tickets from a charity is not seen by the ATO as a donation (as you receive something in return) so we keep our lottery sales separate from the donations that we receive & that way we can pass on all the funds that we receive in our donation'Gift' account to benefit the kids.

Throughout Australia, over 900 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year. Their survival rate has increased significantly over the past 20 years, and when all cancer types are considered, the survival rate 5 years after diagnosis is 81% for this population group. The improved survival rates, which have occurred despite stable cancer incidence rates, are due to medical and technological advances.

As the Naming Rights sponsor of The Kids Cancer Centre's 'Kids Cancer Research Centre' and the 'Behavioural Sciences Unit' at Sydney Children's Hospital and the Founding Patron of the 'Children's Cancer Centre' at Monash Children's which forms part of the Victorian Government's Paediatric Intergrated Cancer Services, our supporters can be assured their donations will go a long way to help us find a cure for childhood cancers, and in the short term a better way for us to treat children suffering now with childhood cancers.

We are proud to be the largest ever donor to Sydney Children's Hospital.

The Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children's has benefited from the $8.3million that has been donated to them from Kids with Cancer Foundation.  In 2014 we made the final $600,000 payment during the Gold Telethon for the new Kids Cancer Centre Research Unit, bringing our total to $1.53million over the five telethons as well as our normal $1.65million donated to Sydney Children's Hospital and our $1.4million to The Children's Hospital at Westmead over the same five year period.  These two hospitals alone received $4.5million over this period with a further $1,000,000 in 2014.
We are a 'Founder' of The Children's Hospital at Westmead and by providing the total funding to build and fit-out the Children's Cancer Centre at Monash Children's Hospital we became the 'Founding Patron' of the Children's Cancer Centre at Victoria's Monash Children's.

When you make a donation to any charity there is always a concern:
"how much of my dollar gets through to the cause".
We use all our donations 100% for family assistance and the cancer wards in children's hospitals with no management fees whatsoever taken from donations made directly to us and held in our donation Gift Account.  All management costs come from the lotteries that we run throughout the year, so our donations remain untouched.

In the month of March (2016) we have assisted families of kids with cancer to pay the household bills thay can't afford to pay, because their child is undergoing cancer treatment, sadly two of those payments were for funerals and we have one more funeral request on our desk today (our 15th since June 2015).

In those 30 days of March we have paid over $32,000 to families, everything from grocery vouchers to rent & mortgage payments. A small thing was tickets to the Zoo for a family ...for a little respite away from the hospital.

As a small charity we get the most satisfaction helping families directly, please help us to continue what we do in your name. Donate & 100% will get to the kids or their families, we take no management fees from your donations.

Finding a cure for childhood cancer is of the utmost importance and to this end we have been involved in funding research into childhood cancer since 1999 however we also appreceiate that the kids suffering now from this dreadful disease have a vital need to be as comfortable & pain free as they can while they are in one of our cancer wards undergoing treatment.  We always ask that any request for funding comes from the senior oncologist in our children's hospitals and in this way we know we are providing funds to the most important areas.
The other side of the funds that we provide go to relieve the financial burden placed on parents of children with cancer.  Imagine giving up your job and moving to a city hospital to be at your baby's or young child's side as they undergo treatment, sometimes for months on end.  How do you pay your mortgage, rent, electricity or any other household bill?  We do more for direct family financial assistance for children under the age of 13 than others due to the fact that (unlike other children's cancer charities) we don't have a dollar limit per family per year.
We pay family electricity, gas, water, phone, Rates, rents, mortgages, accommodation, school fees & tuition, home insurance.  We assist families to get their kids to hospital for treatment, we put tyres on cars, pay for mechanical repairs, pay car regos & insurance, we have purchased 8 second hand cars for families in country areas to get their kids to city hospitals. In the past 3 years our total to families alone is almost $1million.
We have helped families with purchases for kids beds & bedding, fridges, freezers, heaters, washing machines & dryers & other furniture items including single room air conditioners for a child who has returned home after bone marrow transplant & needs to remain inside.  We have paid airfares to fly in grandparents & other family members for single mums who need the extra help when one child is in hospital & siblings need to get to school.
We have provided grocery vouchers and vouchers for clothes and toys at Christmas time.
We assist families all over Australia to pay their funeral fees when they lose a child to cancer & can't afford the funeral expenses.  In the 2012-13 financial year we assisted 22 families with funeral expenses for the youngest of children as part of the $280,000 that we paid to cancer families.  Unlike others we don't discriminate on location when a child dies, and we will share costs with other charities in order to have the total outstanding payments made.

Donate directly now and 100% of your donation will be passed to families & children's hospital's cancer wards.

The 100% charity

100% of all direct donations to Kids with Cancer Foundation are passed on to struggling families of kids with cancer.

No management fees, salaries or any running costs of the Foundation are taken from our Donation Account', and that is our promise to cancer families and our supporters.  Our donations are only used for families who are struggling financially, and have a child in one of our Australian children's hospitals being treated for childhood cancer, or has recently finished treatment.

Cancer families must travel to a major city children's hospital to have their child treated, and the cost can cripple a family's available income over this treatment period, which is at the least months and usually years.  We have no maximum dollar amount per family/per year as we take each social worker's request on merit when it's received.
