Funding hospitals

A commitment to better facilities and care

1,240 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year in Australia, and providing kids with the best possible facilities and staff comes at a significant cost for hospitals.

Kids with Cancer Foundation has helped by providing more than $24 million in funding to date, assisting with facilities and positions that make today easier for kids and their families living with a cancer diagnosis.

The new Cancer Centre for Children at Westmead would not be possible without the support of the Kids with Cancer Foundation.

Finding out if a child’s cancer has been caused by certain genetic changes helps provide information about how to best care for that child and their relatives.

Thanks to the money from the Kids with Cancer Foundation, together with wonderful genetic counsellors, we have been able to establish a paediatric cancer genetic risk service at our hospital.

Sarah Josephi-Taylor, Genetic Staff Specialist, The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

Why is funding needed?

At the direct request of each hospital’s Head of Oncology, we have funded social and welfare workers, oncology fellows, clinical nurse consultants, research nurses, oncology neuropsychologists, late effects coordinators and researchers. Without Kids with Cancer Foundation funding, these positions would not exist as they are outside the scope of government-funded roles.

Our goal is to fund vital clinical positions in every children’s oncology hospital in Australia to help secure the best possible future and provide brighter hope for tomorrow.
