$1 MILLION donation to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

As part of our 25th Anniversary Celebration, it was our absolute delight donating $1,000,000 towards a ground-breaking genetic predisposition service for patients and families, and we had the honour of presenting the million dollar cheque to Cathryn Cox, Chief Executive Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and Dr Luciano Dalla-Pozza, Director Cancer Centre for Children The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

This donation will go towards implementing a genetic predisposition service for patients and families cared for at the Cancer Centre for Children at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, part of the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network building on the success of the PREDICT study, the service will offer all newly diagnosed children and adolescents with cancer, and their parents, genetic analysis to determine if they have a genetic change that predisposes them to cancer.

With this information, clinicians will be able to identify children who have a greater risk of further cancer development, adapt treatment protocols to minimise the risk and monitor patients with specific follow up surveillance programs. In this way there will be a greater chance of identifying and treating any secondary cancers at an early stage. It also gives families invaluable information to assist with family planning.

The funding will support the service over the next three years.

This million dollar donation will take Kids with Cancer Foundation’s total funding to Children’s Hospitals and kids with cancer and their families Australia-Wide to over $30M since 1998.

Our continued support to these essential projects wouldn’t be possible without the generous donations and fundraising initiatives from our corporate and individual partners.
