We’ve committed $10.5 million to help redevelop the new Sydney’s Children’s Hospital, Randwick and The Children’s Hospital at Westmead

We are thrilled to announce we have pledged $10 million dollars to go to The Children’s Hospital, Westmead to fund the new Cancer Centre for Children’s & Advanced Therapeutics – Levels 10 and 11 for the Oncology Treatment Centre and the inpatients unit. This pledge will be paid in instalments over 8 years to Sydney Children’s Hospital Foundation (SCHF).

This new Cancer Centre will bring together diagnosis, cutting edge learning and research, together with exceptional clinical care. Most importantly, families will have single rooms, and spaces which will wrap around the child and their family.

When we reviewed the plans for the new Cancer Centre at Westmead, one of our Board members, Danielle Smith, whose child – William, died from cancer in 2018, said immediately ‘this will make all the difference for the families.’

In addition, we have pledged half a million dollars – $500,000 – to help fit out Oncology Family Spaces at the new Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. This pledge will be paid in instalments over 5 years to SCHF.

A huge thanks to all of the supporters of Kids with Cancer Foundation, for without our incredible network of fundraisers, donors, volunteers, corporate partners, lottery ticket purchasers – and our wonderful small team, this major capital works pledge would not be possible.

We have been working closely with SCHF on this pledge since October 2022, when our KWCF team first attended the Redevelopment Information Evening at NSW Parliament. Our two organisations – KWCF and SCHF have collaborated to determine the needs of the new Cancer Centre for Children and the impact that a gift of this size would have towards the outcome of children’s health in New South Wales and beyond.

We were honoured to be invited by SCHF to announce our pledge of $10.5 million dollars at the 2024 Gold Dinner – SCHF’s annual major fundraiser, which this year was focused on fundraising for the redevelopment of Westmead.

With these pledges to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick, and Bear Cottage, 2024 marks Kids with Cancer Foundation’s lifetime giving of $18.5 million and a further $12.8 million pledged for redevelopment, research, and clinical positions, taking the total gifted to over $30 million.
